Togaku Daruma Factory creates Daruma and Togaku dolls using a traditional, time-tested Japanese technique that's been around for over 100 years . Regardless of the country of origin—be it Japan, Russia, Georgia, or Italy—each doll is crafted according to the canons of ancient craftsmanship.
The base is paper and water, which are used to create a lightweight yet durable pulp. Under pressure, it takes the shape of the future doll, after which the product is air-dried, preserving its natural strength and purity.
The clay bottom gives the doll stability and symbolizes the connection with the earth.
Painting and coloring are done by hand with acrylic paints or by decal printing, depending on the size and design.
The final step is placing a pine seed inside each doll. This ancient ritual symbolizes the beginning of a new life, hope, and the fulfillment of wishes.
THE STRIVING FOR PERSEVERANCE
Another symbol of the owner's perseverance is the Togaku doll's distinctive feature —its downward-facing center of gravity. No matter how you tilt it, it always returns to its upright position. It is the embodiment of fortitude and self-confidence.
In contrast, the traditional Daruma is not always able to maintain balance , so Togaku became the perfection of the ancient form.
The Japanese say: "Nana korobi yaoki" - "Fall seven times, get up eight times."
This proverb perfectly conveys the meaning of the doll: the ability to get up after falling, perseverance and determination to go towards the goal, no matter what.
Togaku Garden
In 2020, it all started with the idea of one little girl, Dasha. She came up with a simple yet brilliant idea: not to burn dolls, but to give them new life.
Thus arose the tradition of Togaku dolls—special Daruma dolls with a pine seed and a bit of living earth hidden in their hearts. When a Togaku fulfills its wish, it is not thrown away or burned. Instead, it is planted in the earth, and from it grows a new tree, a symbol of strength, faith, and rebirth.
These dolls are made of paper and nature, and therefore can return to it - but in the form of life.
This is how Togaku Garden was born – a place where human dreams are transformed into living trees.
Each Togaku reminds:
🌱 Every end is a new beginning,
🔥 Every desire is growth,
💫 Every person is capable of leaving behind not ashes, but life.
Plant your Togaku and let your dream grow along with the tree.
